Described as “The Land of Gods”, Uttarakhand is home to the majestic Himalayas, raw and rough terrains, placid lakes, beautiful waterfalls and many hiking and trekking trails.
This makes this state one of the best and most famous places for the tourists to visit.
You can see the five sister peaks of the Himalayan ranges here which is a must see.
Nainital is one of the most popular hill stations in the state of Uttarakhand and in India. Situated in Kumaon foothills of the Outer Himalayas, Nainital has an altitude of around 2,000mts. The most unique thing about Nainital is that it is situated in a valley which has an eye shaped lake, hence the name “Nainital”.
There are many fun and adventurous things to do in Nainital whether it be for couples, family or a group of friends. You can go for a cable car ride which runs from Mallital to snow view point. The most amazing thing about this cable car ride is that it offers you a panoramic view of all the peaks of Nainital and also of Naini Lake. You can also go for a trek to Tiffin top which is around 4kms from the heart of Nainital. The sunrise views here are just mesmerizing and a definite not to miss. Go for Cheena or Naina peak if you want to witness the view of Nainital from the highest vantage point flanked by deodar trees and various types of rhododendrons. Other famous spots include Khurpatal Lake, Sariyatal and Kilbury which is a nice outing spot.
Kausani is known as the “Switzerland of India”, Kausani is located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. You can enjoy 300km wide and panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges while here. Anasakti Ashram was dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi when he stayed in the Ashram in 1929. You can explore various tea estates and farms while watching the sunset. Several hiking points and trails will take you to some of the most offbeat places here which you will cherish for the rest of your life.
Munsiyari lies in the upper regions of the Kumaon region. It is famous for the views of Panchachuli peaks and this place offers the best view of the five sister peaks of the Himalayas. Interestingly, it also falls on the ancient trade route of Tibet.
Thamri Kund is a pond that is revered by the locals and it is also famous amongst the trekking community as this place lies amidst lush green forests and snow clad Himalayan peaks. If lucky, you can also spot some musk deers while here.
Tribal heritage museum is dedicated to the Bhotia people residing in the upper Himalayan valleys and it showcases their culture, traditions, lifestyle and history.
Ranikhet is a hill station which is located in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. It is one of the offbeat places, surrounded by beautiful gardens and vibrant flowers. The place has an old world charm to it, life runs at its own pace here and you will get to see many old villas and churches here. While here you can visit some of the most beautiful apple orchards and gardens. Visit Kumaon Regimental centre, which is a museum dedicated to the army battalion here. Before heading back to your stay, visit Rani Jheel which is an artificial man made lake here.
The best time to visit Uttarakhand is from March to June which is the spring/summer months in the region. You can also plan for winter months which are from late October to early February.
